Billie Thompson, LPC

My name is Billie Thompson. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (Supervisor), as well as a Registered Play Therapist. I reside in Oklahoma City and have over 20 years’ experience working with children, adolescents, and families. I began my career working in the childcare field, later transitioning to the therapeutic field to further support the healthy development of children and families. I received my AA in Psychology from OCCC in December 1999. Within this degree, I have over 20 hours of Child Development. I earned my MS in Professional Counseling from MACU in May 2012. I studied Play Therapy at the Oklahoma Play Therapy Training Institute from September 2017 to June 2018. I received my certification as a Registered Play Therapist from the Association for Play Therapy in September 2018. Despite the name, Play Therapy techniques can be used with very young children up to adult clients. Play therapy allows clients different ways to express thoughts, feelings, and events that they might not otherwise feel comfortable discussing. When possible, I encourage families to join in the therapy process in order to help heal the entire family unit. I believe that cultural sensitivity is another important aspect of mental health and healing. I am an enrolled member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma and I am also Muscogee Creek, Seminole, and Euchee. I have a personal Native perspective that I have found beneficial in making a positive connection with those who seek cultural understanding and empathy.
